Be careful when using some of the popular free photo sites on the Internet (like Flickr), as your image may end up being used by others without your knowledge.
In a recent case, a Flicker user, Gillian, uploaded a photo of a crashed car to her Flickr site. Her photo was then used by Virgin Australia as part of their Ad campaign.
As Gillian explains on her blog, what they did was not illegal (as her photo was uploaded using a licence that allowed commercial use) but it would have been nice if they had contacted her. The first she knew about the use of her photo was from a comment on the photo by someone who saw the ad.
So if you use a photo sharing service and don’t want your images to be used by others, make sure you choose the copyright and licence that reflects this.
