Today I announce the five “Power of 5″ winners.
Many subscribers will remember that last month I held a “Great Tip Search”, and with that a competition. The five authors of the best 5 tips submitted would each win a Canon Powershot A630 digital camera.
I had a huge number of entries – over 2,500! Thanks to everyone who entered – I really appreciated the time you put into entering your particular tips. Reading all the tips, I noticed a number of very common themes, so it was sometimes hard to choose a ‘winning’ tip from all the great entries.
After much deliberation. I have selected the five winners:
I chose these tips because they each described a simple, yet very effective way of taking better photos.
Thanks again to all who entered. I got lots of great feedback.
If you didn’t win this time – stay tuned, because I have more competitions and special prizes in the works.
David.

8I was under the impression that the contest was for tips for digital cameras in particular as was stated in the contest rules. The winning tips submitted pertain to all cameras. They are good photography tips in general. I am somewhat disappointed that the rules were not followed.
I have enjoyed the email tips received from you during 2006. My best wishes to you in the coming year.
Cheers, Claude.

9Claude,
The tips were required to be for digital cameras, but I did not state in the rules that they needed to be only for digital cameras.
I just didn’t want any tips for changing film submitted!
I’m sorry you missed out – please feel free to enter the next competition.
David.

10Dave great contest…who cares if its win or lose its only life and all photography is a momentary reflection of life on Earth of light and time….anyone who has climbed Uluru (Ayres Rock) and walked way past the book signing place will notice the large coluums of weathered rock that look like the coluums of a building…..whats my point…it is that we are so alone in this universe that all that will remain is time light and photographic memories…well preserved timeless…like what our mind is trying to remember…..some of you may think Iam mad no…Iam a photographer…capturing the moment…….so what should we do with our old friends the film camera? collect dust or get rid of them…..have I lost the plot or yeah great contest…sorry about the sore losers….make my day…have a real contest where we choose the winners by majority vote wins….regards David …Bernie….happy 2007……

11Great, simple tips. They are mostly just common sense when you really think about them which makes them all the more workable.
May 2007 be a great year for you and please keep up the good work.

21Insightful common sense tips that we should all always remember. Especially the first about keeping your camera always with you. If only…….
Thanks for the e-mail updates too. It is nice to check in occasionally to make sure the digital photo secrets endorsement I have kept on my own website is just as valuable and worthwhile as ever.
Keep up the good work.

23David,
I am 68 years young and have been seriously into photography for more than 50 years. It is a supreme compliment to you that I wish you had been around in my early years with your invaluable tips (when I was struggling with the concepts of depth of field and circle of confusion, among others). Keep up the great work in 2007. As an aside, although I live in the US, I’ve traveled many times to Melbourne and Sidney and love the Australian people – they are some of the best in the entire world.

26I have been totally enjoying the course, the tips. What a wonderful idea, I was wondering Dave what happened to the 6th camera for the people who chose the best tips in the running? At any rate I am so pleased that I longed on to your site because it has been everything it promised to be and more. I am planning a career hopefully, I am 50 so it is a switch from what I have been doing.
I plan on doing some formal study and appreciate any training that helps me get there. Thank you so much Dave. Until later. Elena
