It's my birthday today. Will you do me a favor?

It's my birthday today! I know it’s weird to ask for my own gift, but I’m going to do it any way.

Will you share one specific thing my photography tips (or my book, Digital Photo Secrets) has helped you achieve this year? This can be anything photography related... You took an award winning picture; started a photography business; fixed a photo that wasn't quite right; or taken more photos you are proud of than ever.

Or maybe your achievement had nothing to do with photography at all. It could be anything really. Maybe your new-found confidence landed you a new job you absolutely love. Who knows...

I wouldn’t be surprised, actually. Digital Photo Secrets isn’t only about cameras and photos. It's about realizing that a little knowledge and a few small adjustments can make a huge difference. To show that techniques can be put into practice, and to show that information is not enough — we have to actually DO it. Stuff that works in every aspect of our lives.

As I have said before, when I started this site my goal was to give my readers valuable information about photography and cameras that was relevant, informative, free of technical jargon and sometimes even funny. And the last 8 years have been an incredible ride... from sending my first free tips in November 2004 to growing this site into what it is today.

Honestly, I can't think of a better birthday present than hearing how my material has helped you.

Just leave a comment on this post. Or, upload a video to YouTube and tag it "DigitalPhotoSecrets". Or tweet your thanks.

Try to be as specific as you can in your comment and/or video. Share your story, I'd love to hear it. It would really make my day.

Thanks in advance.

Yours in Photography,

Happy birthday, mine was Sept. 4th. The hardest part for me about DPS is stopping the reading of all the photo tips. They are all so excellent. I've bought many of the e-books too.
    Keep up the good work!

    Dear David,
    Happy Belated Birthday,
I've been receiving your wonderful tips on photography since 2007, and it is superbly amazing to have it. Many knowledge I got, though its only me that less effort and less materials to try on every tips you gave. But it is a blessing to have all of things I wouldn't get in college, so thanks so much to you, may all the best come to you and your family.
    Regards from Yogya :)

Thank you for your tips, I enjoyed every one and have learnd a lot. I need your advice on buying my first DSLR camera. Im looking at the Canon 600D or Nikon 5100. I am using a Nikon P500 at the moment and feel I am ready for upgrade now. Which one would be the easiest to manage?

Thanks David for all of your tips. I particularly liked the tips on children photography. Especially the tip to take their pictures on their level. My kids photos are much nicer these days
